The know-how behind our accessories
Our hats are handmade with the utmost expertise in our workshop in Brussels (Belgium).
How do we wrap our sun hats?
- First, we carefully wrap the hat in tissue paper.
- Then we place it in a hat box designed by Fabienne Delvigne. These are specially designed for the Maison.
- Next, we place a certificate of authenticity next to the hat.
- Finally, we delicately perfume it with Guerlain’s Eau de Cashemire. This step reminds us of a beautiful collaboration between the two Houses.
The history of the panama hat
Panama hats are made from plant fibers. Despite its name, it is not Panamanian in origin, but Ecuadorian.
What’s more, contrary to popular belief, Panama is not a type of hat. In fact, it’s a material made from hand-woven young palm shoots from Ecuador. Therefore, a trilby hat, a fedora hat or a floppy hat could very well be considered a panama hat!
It was Theodore Roosevelt who popularized the hat, wearing it during his visit to the Panama Canal construction site in 1906. The hat went on to become a must-have accessory for sunny days.
