The woman with a capital W
A magnificent collaboration between the Belgian fine art photographer Sylvia Jones and Fabienne Delvigne highlights the work of two female artists for whom Woman with a capital W is at the centre of their creation.
The meeting of these two artists was a revelation. The alchemy that emerged from their respective arts combined to form a single entity. A symbiosis of lightness, subtlety, and gentleness brought to depict the full grandeur of woman.
The same need to sublimate
Belgian art photographer Sylvia Jones has meticulously created black-and-white works that capture the essence and inner strength of African women. The hats by Maison Fabienne Delvigne accentuate feminine curves, and Sylvia Jones’s understated aesthetic captures who they are: women seeking to transcend, particularly through their respective art.
The women embodied by Sylvia Jones are devoid of artifice: a simple piece of silk gauze that conceals or reveals, a white fabric like a sacred cape, a hat delicately placed like a symbolic crown. The hats by Brussels-based Fabienne Delvigne, with whom Jones collaborated for the series, lend a real dimension to her compositions. According to her: they are an ode to women. They reinforce their self-esteem and their self-respect. Of African origin, the name of the photo series «Morowa,» meaning «queen,» presents us with postures of women possessing absolute dignity and strength. Of serenity and self-confidence, devoid of any suspicion, narcissism, or self-consciousness.
Fabienne Delvigne's hats, with their wavy lines and textures that create relief in the image, enhance both the composition and the content. «With a Fabienne Delvigne hat, you stand taller; you immediately feel a sense of pride in the way you move,» says Jones.
The exhibition is also accompanied by a book entitled «MOROWA: AFRICAN WOMEN THROUGH A FEMALE LENS». From the proceeds of this book, 20% will be donated to the women employed at Amboseli. A project aimed at mothers who have to provide for their entire families on their own.
