They wore it to protect themselves from the sun's rays. After having been the headwear of sailors for many years, the 'canotier' spread thanks to the appearance of pleasure boats.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"coco-chanel-pionniere-de-ce-chapeau-emblematique\">Coco Chanel, pioneer of this iconic hat\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is thanks to Coco Chanel's anticonformism that this hat, so coveted by men, began to adorn women's heads. Auguste Renoir's painting titled \u00abLuncheon of the Boating Party\u00bb depicts a moment of relaxation where a man is wearing a boater hat.
