The History of the Panama Hat: A noble and elegant straw

Panama hats are made from vegetable fibres. Despite their name, they are not from Panama but from Ecuador. Contrary to popular belief, “panama” is not a form of hat. In fact, it is a material made from a hand-woven fabric made from young palm shoots from Ecuador. Therefore, a trilby hat, a fedora hat or a floppy hat could very well be considered a panama hat!

Theodore Roosevelt who popularized it by wearing it during his visit to the building sites of the Panama Canal in 1906. This hat has since become a must-have accessory for sunny days.

The Fedora Hat’s History: An iconic hat

The fedora has always been considered a classic in the world of hats. The word “fedora” comes from a hat that Sarah Bernhardt wore in one of her plays. She was the main character in “Fedora”, a drama by Victorien Sardou.

It is an iconic piece that has been worn by many actors such as Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca, or Harrison Ford in Indiana Jones. You can also see it in the movie: Borsalino by Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo.

How do we wrap our hats?

First, we carefully wrap the hats in silk paper. They are then placed in a black Fabienne Delvigne hat box. These boxes are specially made for Maison Fabienne Delvigne.

Then, we put a certificate of authenticity next to the hat. We finish by perfuming Eau de Cashmere by Guerlain. It is a reminder of the beautiful collaboration between the two Maisons.
