The Boater Hat’s History
The boater hat is an oval-shaped straw hat, with a flat cap bottom and brim. The word “boater hat” comes the mid-19e century. It was a crucial part the summer uniform of sailors. This hat was used by “canotiers”. They loaded the ships with food, commodities and other products.
The boater hat then made its way amongst high society. It even became custom to dress children as little sailors.
Maurice Chevalier gave the boater hat his letters of nobility. He wore the boater hat so often that it became an integral part of his character.
The “Hepbrun” boater hat is a classic of Maison Fabienne Delvigne.It is a combination of two types of hats. It has the boater hat’s flat bottom and the floppy hat’s wide brim. However, instead of being supple, it is stiffened by primers and a wire called brass.
Audrey Hepbrun was Belgian actress lived in Brussels in her youth. This hat was inspired by Audrey Hepburn. The Belgian actress was a great inspiration to the designer Fabienne Delvigne. She admired her elegance and sobriety.
